Designed to provide the student with an understanding of the various mechanisms by which human diseases develop. Includes a survey of common disorders involving each of the major body systems.
Prerequisites
Students must pass all prerequisite courses with a grade of C or higher.
- Students must take either BIOL120C (or higher) or BIOL 195C, plus BIOL 196C.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will:
- Explain the inflammatory and immune responses.
- Differentiate between the types and characteristics of microorganisms responsible for human infectious diseases.
- Describe the mechanisms by which deviations from normal health occur, including but not limited to: infectious agents, carcinogens, genetic abnormalities, and mechanical injury.
