Description
Emphasizes the study of drug origins, properties, dosages, and therapeutic effects. Specific consideration is given to those drugs used in dentistry and anesthesiology.

Students are required to pass prerequisite courses with a grade of C or higher. Exceptions apply; please consult your department chair.

- Describe the general principles of pharmacology, including drug characteristics, basic mechanisms of action and adverse reactions, methods of administration, and interactions of each classification of drugs.
- Describe the pharmacology of agents used primarily for nondental indications, which may influence dental treatment either directly or indirectly.
- Describe the pharmacology and identify the drugs with recognized use of routine clinical dentistry for premedication, and the control of pain, infections, and disease.
- Identify the components of a prescription and correctly use the symbols and terminology used in prescription.
