Course Description
VRTS220C - Painting II This course is designed to expand on the formal introduction in Introduction to Painting and/or Introduction to Watercolor, students will further refine observational, technical and critical skills. Projects will negotiate challenges with a view toward increasing two dimensional complexity, and advancing technique as well as concept. An academic studio approach will be used with the emphasis on adept handling of water-based painting media and methods, applied color theory, and continued development of solid drawing skills. Abstraction and mark making will be discussed and applied as students begin to develop a personal painterly vocabulary. A high level of consistency is expected for both in and out of class assignments. Students will explore painters from Historical tradition and those of Modern and Contemporary realms.. (Prerequisite: VRTS 120C or VRTS 121C)
