Academic Honors Policy

NHTI recognizes student academic achievement through the designation of Academic and Graduation Honors, as well as Departmental Honors conferred by individual academic programs.

Academic Honors are awarded on a semester basis to matriculated students who are enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours. The President’s List is awarded to students who achieve a GPA of 3.70 or higher. The Vice President’s List is awarded to students who achieve a GPA between 3.30 and 3.69.

Graduation Honors are awarded to students who complete an Associate of Science (AS), Associate of Arts (AA), professional certificate, or certificate program, and are based on the student’s cumulative GPA.

  • Cum Laude: GPA 3.30 – 3.69
  • Magna Cum Laude: GPA 3.70– 3.89
  • Summa Cum Laude: GPA 3.90 – 4.00

Departmental Honors are determined by criteria established by individual academic departments and are awarded to recognize outstanding achievement within a specific discipline. These honors are typically conferred during Awards Day or departmental completion ceremonies. In accordance with current NHTI practice, Departmental Honors are not recorded on official academic transcripts.
