Course Description
ORTH208C - Orthopaedic Casting and Splinting II This Course is a continuation of Casting & Splinting I. Students will learn advanced casting techniques along with windowing of a cast, uni/bivalving techniques, wedging of cast, protection of pins and external hardware, pin care and wound care. Cast removal and safety will be taught along with cast saw maintenance. This lab will also cover various orthopaedic devices, positioning of the patient, complications and contraindications of various durable medical equipment, and different brace fitting techniques. Modifying, customizing, and fitting of braces and orthotics will be discussed. Medical coding for reimbursement for these devises will also be discussed. A specialty equipment fee will be charged for lab materials.
