A student may substitute a comparable course from the same program. The substitution can be made only with the approval of the student’s department chair/program coordinator. Substitute course credits will appear on the student’s NHTI transcript and can be used to meet the credit requirement for the program. A student may be eligible to substitute a higher-level course in the same subject for the one prescribed in the curriculum if indicated by an evaluation of the student’s competencies. The substitution can be made with approval of the student’s department chair/program coordinator. A student may substitute a comparable course from another program to meet degree requirements with the common agreement of the department chairs and the approval of the Vice President of Academic and Workforce Education. All of the substitutions can be made with email approvals or Approval Form available in the Registrar’s office.
A course waiver is an exemption from a required course. A course waiver may be granted by the by the student’s department chair/program coordinator. Waivers apply only to courses required in the curriculum, and not prerequisites for a given program. A waiver may only be approved if the program learning outcomes are met and the general education requirements for graduation are satisfied. A waiver is for the course only; credit will not be awarded for the waived course. All students must complete a minimum of 60 credits to be awarded an Associate in Science or Associate in Arts degree. Students with fewer than 60 credits as a result of a waiver must make up the credits. Any make-up credits must have the approval of the student’s department chair.
